Aesthetically -
It is easy to see the original intention of the image. The long path to the hilltop castle is a classic subject, and the group walking is a really nice touch. The clouds on the left are a nice touch, but might be better if they were more prevalent throughout the skyline

Technically -
The water on the left juxtaposes the predominant stone element really well without battling for attention. A lenses hood to block the flare would have been a great tool to keep the clarity of the photo. Bracketing in these situations can really help capture the subject's highlights and lowlights.

Overall -
This is a great first attempt at the shot. Hopefully you'll have a chance to go back and reshoot the great location. I can definitely see the draw to the subject. Your framing of the subject is great. Maybe bringing the camera a little lower to look up at the castle would be good.
